There is no more potent reminder of the arrival of autumn than the crisp cool air and the scent of autumn leaves. Most people feel that we are fortunate to live in shadow of such lovely trees. And some even enjoy raking and fall clean-up. For others the falling leaves are a big chore. Together though we will all get through this event as we do every year.
Leaf Collection in our area is scheduled to begin within mid to late October, depending on leaf accumulation. After the first sweep, the trucks will return to the area 4 to 5 weeks later to pick up additional leaf accumulation. They will continue with pick-up until all of the leaves are collected, weather permitting.
It is helpful to remember that while leaf clean-up can be a chore there are more important safety concerns particularly on properties adjacent to sidewalks and adjacent our schools. We all need to do our share.
- Place leaves curbside, not in the street.
- Communicate leaf collection regulations with landscapers and lawn service contractors.
- Rain and wind often shift piles of leaves from the curb into the street. Please insure that leaves are moved back on to the curb.
- Bag your leaves, especially if your property is adjacent to a sidewalk. Consider the safety of all of our school children, commuters and in home workers as they walk to and from school, the village and our homes.
